Fuad Makkouk, MD

Fuad Makkouk, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist, who specializes in the medical and surgical management of all diseases of the retina. Dr. Makkouk was born and raised in Austin, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with high honors and a degree in biochemistry. He then went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. Following medical school, Dr. Makkouk completed an internship at the Yale School of Medicine. He then returned to UTMB, where he completed his residency and was named ophthalmology Chief Resident. While at UTMB, he received awards for both citizenship and leadership.

Following residency, he completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Yale, while also working as a clinical instructor. Dr. Makkouk then returned to Austin after his fellowship, where he founded the Austin Eye Center and participates as an investigator at Austin Clinical Research. Outside of the office, you’ll find Dr. Makkouk spending time with his wife, Diana, on Town Lake, hiking the Greenbelt, or fishing.
